Last month we were invited to stay at Saybrook Point Inn and Spa located at the shores of historic Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

Saybrook Point features a collection of 100 guestrooms, a full-service SANNO spa, and a casual fine dining restaurant Fresh Salt. Guests can stay at the main inn, the historic Three Stories, the newly opened Victorian-era Italianate-style Tall Tales luxury guesthouses, as well as a unique waterside Lighthouse Suite which has just been completely renovated and opened in April.

The Inn

Since Three Stories and Tall Tales are adult-only accommodations, we stayed at the Inn. The room was cozy and spacious and the balcony had gorgeous views of the Long Island Sound and Connecticut River.  There was enough natural light coming in from the balcony and windows. The dark wood furnishings added a nice New England touch. The bathroom was large – with a bathtub, wide sink, and vanity area.

Curious about the other buildings, we were given a tour of the property by general manager John Lombardo. Both Three Stories and Tall Tales were beautiful.

Three Stories

Three Stories has eight individually designed rooms, each with its own private balcony, luxurious European bedding, and fine linens. The building has a Billiards room and a wrap-around porch to enjoy the stunning views of the Long Island Sound. Our favorite room was #420 John Buckridge Room (shown top).

Tall Tales

Tall Tales is a six bedroom, Italianate home. On the first floor, you’ll find a small kitchen and an open-floor plan dining room and living space. Perfect for preparing home-cooked meals or just spending some quality time as a group, this space is ideal for your next girlfriend getaway or corporate retreat. On the second floor, play the day away in the game room complete with billiards and a custom chess table.

Activities

While on the property, my daughter and I took a dip in their heated indoor, while my husband enjoyed a Swedish massage at SANNO Spa. For families, there are plenty of activities to do within a half hour drive from the property. You can take a ride on the Essex Steam Train, visit a museum and learn about the culture of Connecticut, or have fun while learning at Kid City in Middletown. Just steps away from the Inn is a miniature golf course.

Dining at Fresh Salt

Saybrook Point Inn’s restaurant, Fresh Salt, offers casual fine dining and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you don’t want to leave your room, you can also order room service from them. Notable is their Sunday buffet brunch, where diners can choose from a delicious selection of pastries, egg dishes, hot entrees and desserts for a sweet ending. Fresh Salt also hosts special dinners, like an Argentinian wine dinner or Scotch pairing dinner. Be sure to check their calendar for upcoming events.

Would we stay again?

Yes. The property is beautiful and well kept. The next we’ll visit, we’ll try to have a date night so we could stay at the Tall Tales property. If not, we would stay at the Inn with our toddler.
